Award winning performers to play at Ubuntu festival
Get set for a Human Rights Day concert of note when Mi Casa, Jimmy Nevis, Chad Saaiman and Toya Delazy take the stage at the Ubuntu festival at Maynardville Park, Wynberg on Saturday March 21. With the theme 'Happy me, Happy you' the festival will embody the spirit of Ubuntu and is presented under the auspices of the SA Ubuntu Foundation (SAUF) with the Amy Biehl Foundation (ABF) as the beneficiary. Supported by Sunlight, this brings the popular festival back after a two year absence and, with these great acts, a day not be missed.
This hot and happening concert brings these popular artists together as they set the mood for a memorable afternoon. Get there early and enjoy a youth cultural concert at 11am before settling in for the main event starting at 1pm. With commedia Siv Ngesi hosting where else would you want to be on Human Rights Day? Grooving to these sounds, while helping the Amy Biehl Foundation (ABF) in their excellent work, is a perfect 'ubuntu' opportunity.
A R20 donation to support this work is the very small entrance fee for patrons (children under ten years enter free.)
With Bush Radio as our partner bringing music and fun to the people is an opportunity to connect, picnic in the beautiful grounds and take time out enjoying our diverse cultures. This is the objective and, supported by other top local acts and youth dancers, the festivities will have something for everyone. Kicking off at 11am with a youth festival the pop concert will take the stage from 1pm to 5pm.
Add to that pop up food trucks that will offer cultural food all day and both body and soul will be well fed! Gates will close at 6pm. Simply put - a fun day for the whole family, with food, dance, music and special children's activities.
Mi Casa's second award winning album "Su Casa" has received much critical acclaim. The three members, Dr Duda (producer and club DJ), J-Something (vocalist and guitarist) and Mo-T (trumpeter) blend their musical talent to create a unique urban jazz sound. Warm house beat peppered with jazz trumpet and a fresh twist of soul, the Mi Casa sound recipe is rich and authentic.
Jimmy Nevis has just been nominated for a SAMA 2015 for the categories, Best Pop Album and Best Male Artist of the year.
Listen to Bush Radio for regular updates on who will be appearing on stage.
The Ubuntu Festival was traditionally held at St Georges Mall in Cape Town on Madiba's July 18 birthday but this year has moved to the new date and venue to celebrate the human rights of everyone living in South Africa with this free cultural day. Gather friends and family and enjoy this very special day in a glorious environment.
'We believe that our happiness depends on each other' says Kevin Chaplin, managing director of The Amy Biehl Foundation and South African Ubuntu Foundation Trusts, 'That's why our theme this year is 'Happy Me, Happy You'. Don't hold back - be happy is what we say.'
All funds raised will go towards completing the renovations to the new home of the Amy Biehl Foundation. This multi-purpose facility will house skills and entrepreneurship workshops to empower the youth.
The International Youth Cultural Festival in the morning will showcase dance and musical numbers of both diverse and cultural origin, stemming from Russia, Lithuania, USA, India and South Africa.
The SAUF presented the Ubuntu Festivals in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as part of the ABF awareness programme and this year managing director Kevin Chaplin has secured funding from Sunlight for the return of this popular event.
