Alexander Forbes Conference

Leading retirement funds consulting and administration provider Alexander Forbes will hold their second annual Ready Set Retire conferences around the country in March.

The 2015 theme for the conference, Live your best retirement, is aimed at empowering people close to retirement with practical advice, tools and information they need to retire comfortably.
According to the BankservAfrica's Private Pension Index released last month, which tracks actual payments into the bank accounts of South African pensioners, 85% of all pensions are below R10 000 while the typical South African pensioner is being paid just R3 559 every month.

"Those with retirement ahead still have an opportunity to take certain steps that will shape what their retirement will look like," said Andrew Auld, senior wealth manager from Alexander Forbes and a panelist at the conference.

This year's conference will also look at striking a good balance between financial and physical well-being with talks from Benny Masekwameng, celebrity chef and MasterChef South Africa judge and Cathy Yuill, adult development coach.

The one-day programme includes the following presentations:

o Tax planning for retirement - Jenny Gordon, head of legal advice for Alexander Forbes' retail division;
o Investing for your goals - Gareth Johnson, head of individual investments at Investment Solutions;
o Understanding the realities of your retirement decisions - John Anderson, Alexander Forbes pensions industry expert;
o Getting your health cover sorted - Anthea Towert, Alexander Forbes health-funding expert;
o The retirement decision - Bruce Cameron, founding editor of Personal Finance, and a financial adviser from each region.
o Eating smart in retirement - Benny Masekwameng, celebrity chef and MasterChef South Africa judge; and
o Building a bridge between employment and retirement - Cathy Yuill, adult development coach;
