Cape Town Carnival

The Cape Town Carnival is a glamorous celebration of African identity, showcasing the diverse communities and cultures of our country. The theme for Cape Town Carnival 2015 is Elemental: Celebrating Fire, Water, Air and Earth - the unstoppable forces that shape us and our environment.

A colourful parade will introduce the audience to astounding giant floats, wacky puppets and amazing speciality acts, each carefully built, decorated and choreographed to embody the Elemental theme. Organisers are encouraging Carnival-goers to shine bright, dive into the sea, take to the skies and come back to earth - and celebrate what the Elemental theme means to them.

Visitors will have the freedom of the city streets from 4pm as they join family and friends on the much-loved Green Point Fan Walk to enjoy the variety of food, crafts and special kids' activities on offer. The streets will be closed for final preparations at 6pm, giving Carnival-goers enough time to find the perfect viewing spot or make their way to one of the many restaurants along the Fan Walk before the magic begins at 7pm.

An explosion of fireworks at 7pm marks the start of the electrifying parade. Over 2,000 dazzling costumed performers and musicians will take to Cape Town's Fan Walk, entertaining viewers with magical floats and vibrant dance routines. The parade will be followed by a thumping Redds after-party showcasing some of SA's hottest musical talent.
