Mapungubwe Arts FestivalA celebration of Arts and Heritage at the Mapungubwe Arts Festival Summer Season The festive holidays are only a few short weeks away and this year, along with the opportunity to relax, comes the promise of a very exciting week of events to enjoy and share with family and friends. Seeped in cultural heritage, Limpopo will be the place to be for great music and entertainment with the Mapungubwe Arts Festival (Summer Season) bringing audiences a week of exciting stage events, including the Gospel Festival on 6 December and a Jazz and Heritage Festival the following week on the 13 December. With T.Musicman at the helm of both events, audiences can be sure of a two unforgettable experiences. The Mapungubwe Festival opens with a carnival parade through Polokwane from Olympic Park to the SABC Park on Friday 5 December. On 6 December a gospel festival will be held at Polokwane Cricket Grounds that will see one stage play host to a stellar line-up of South Africa's gospel artists. With performers like Solly Mahlangu, Worship House, Go Explo and Sipho Makhabane and five groups from local districts bringing their uplifting style to the event, audiences will soar into the holiday season. Following will be a week of free theatre, comedy and stage performances at the Library Gardens Hall that will showcase the talent in the region. The Mapungubwe Arts Festival will close with the Jazz and Heritage Festival taking place at the Polokwane Cricket Grounds, the line-up includes both South African artists and artists from the rest of the continent with Salif Keita, Hugh Masekela, Bhudaza, Jonas Gwangwa, Joe Shirimani, Thomas Chauke, Colbert Mukwevho, Jimmy Dludlu and Candy N'waingwane taking centre stage. Events like the Mapungubwe Arts Festival positively contribute towards improving the socio-economy of artists.
