Renowned jazz maestro to hold masterclass prior to his one night only performances
Concert details Fred Wesley to host Master Class 27 November at the State Theatre
Be entertained by the musical high jinks of renowned American trombonist Fred Wesley on 29 November 2014 at the Wits Theatre. For one night only this much respected arranger and composer, author, musicologist and educator will take Johannesburg audiences on a unique journey of funk, jazz, blues and R&B.
A veteran of the Count Basie Orchestra, Wesley began his career playing for Ike and Tina Turner. He worked with James Brown as music director, arranger, trombonist and a primary composer and joined forces with artists such as Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Usher, Pancho Sanchez, the SOS Band and Cameo. He also performs with Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis and rap star Nas and pop sensation Janet Jackson are among the scores of artists who have sampled his work.
While in South Africa Wesley will also be hosting a Free Workshop at the State Theatre on 27 November from 4pm - 6pm.
Wesley will be joined by his long-time performance and recording jazz-funk band the New JBs. Join this musical legend for an unforgettable evening of music. Seats are limited.
