Summer Strawberry Fair at Stellenbosch Slow Market

On Saturday, 1 November 2014, summer will officially be celebrated after a long Western Cape winter with the Summer Strawberry Fair at the Slow Market, where everything from fresh strawberries from the farm, to strawberry ice cream and sorbets, strawberry bakes and cakes, strawberry sausages to even strawberry soaps and bath salts will please a variety of senses of those attending.

The renowned Stellenbosch Slow Market will soon be painted red as all things "strawberries" will be celebrated at this popular Saturday destination known for its culinary delights and local market treasures, all provided in an authentic slow food style and setting.

The Rooi Rok Padstal will be selling the freshest seasonal strawberries straight from the farm. Wendy's Smoothies, differentiated from others through combining interesting flavours such as pomegranate, lemon, mint and nutty delights, will be serving refreshingly chilled strawberry smoothies, while the Smulpaap Café will be creating the best strawberry inspired salads. Ollie's Sausages, who never disappoints with a variety of sausages of all types, will be selling a uniquely created strawberry sausage, and Cape Mountain Charcuterie (producers of free range, gluten free cured meats) will be offering artisanal strawberry produced creations made on the farm. By Nature, known for its range of premium quality natural and organic products, will be providing preservative-free dried strawberries, while you can expect the most delicious strawberry toppings from Arnim von Werne on their German cakes and waffles. Even strawberry brownies will be on sale at Yummi Brownies (made from free range eggs, real farm butter and organic macaroons). From the heart of Constantia, the Constantia Cheesery is a cheese lover's dream, where one can get anything from strong mature cheddar to ripe gorgonzola, sheep and goat's milk cheeses, and everything in between - including a few special conserves and jellies. So expect an extraordinary inspiring taste sensation from them when they pair their famous cheeses with strawberry creations that will certainly prove to be one of the highlights of the day. Strawberry cheese anyone? Tao Chinese Food, Fine Pastries, as well as Flamed (among others), will ensure that those who arrive with a huge appetite will leave feeling very satisfied with their strawberry inspired meals of the day. The Slow Market Minted Strawberry Carpaccio also promises to make for a lovely appetizer or dessert. Boutique wineries, such as Tierhoek and Saltare, will serve alcohol beverages with strawberry flavours to further celebrate one of Mother Nature's greatest gifts - packed with nutrients (and an excellent source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, fiber and antioxidants).

All this, plus many more strawberry delights and surprises will be on offer. There is no entry fee for the Stellenbosch Slow Market and parking is freely available.
