Aspirant writers who would like to sharpen their creative skills and explore their writer's voice should join The Writing Studio's The Write Voice workshop at The Writing Studio in Greenpoint, Cape Town on Saturday, October 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 2pm until 5pm.
You only have to look at our graduates to sign up for this unique workshop that follow in the tradition of 19 years of workshops throughout South Africa under guidance of respected film and theatre journalist of 30 years, Daniel Dercksen, a qualified ETD practitioner (education, training and development) and playwright whose play The Beauty of Incomplete Things enjoyed a successful run in Cape Town and Johannesburg this year.
Graduates of previous workshops include award-winning playwright Neil Coppen (Abnormal Loads), novelists Lauren Beukes (Zoo City, The Shining Girl) Gary Hirson (The Magic That is Ours and Calm in Storm)and Consuelo Roland (who received acclaim for her Lady Limbo Novel, and was Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Fiction Award and received an Honorary mention for the Olive Schreiner Prize for her novel The Good Cemetery Guide).
The unique creative writing workshop is ideal for anyone with an idea for a story and looks at the tools storytellers need to support the creative process and turn writing into a pleasant and profitable experience. Writers will journey through the writing process, uncovering the writers' voice, and deconstruct writing fiction, non-fiction and journalism. The workshop is ideal for storytellers who need a jump start and take that step forward in writing creatively and effectively. If you find it difficult to start writing, not sure what medium to write for, or what to write, this introspective odyssey will empower you with the write skills.
It guarantees to sharpen the creative focus, intensify the creative process, and maximize the writers' 'me-time'. It empowers writers to make the right choices and take ownership of their writing; master the craft of writing for different mediums (from articles to short stories, from novels to plays and films); develop an understanding of what and who you are writing about; and how to change chaos into completed projects that is publisher-friendly. The writers will write a short story that will be read and shared with the group during the last session.
Our motivational and inspirational The Write Voice is guaranteed to awaken the writer within and turn thoughts into ideas that will plant the seed for a new story. The Write Voice sharpens your creative focus, intensifies the creative process, and maximizes your 'me-time' and turn a potential idea into reward and profit. It rallies storytellers to get into the habit of writing daily and turn inspiration into reward, transforms mundane, meaningless and empty words into profound, provocative and life-changing self expression, explores the storyteller's inner self that will enrich thematic purpose and dramatically alter the meaning of storytelling, injects a fresh sensibility into stories that reflect the uniqueness of culture, history and experience and inspires storytellers to get in touch with who they are!
The Write Voice workshop takes place on four Saturday afternoons from 2pm until 5pm at The Writing Studio in Cape Town from October 4, and can also be done via correspondence.
