In it's second year, Barrydale will be hosting once again Barrydale In Bloom - an Open Gardens Safari through the Klein Karoo villages of Barrydale and Smitsville. More stalls, more gardens, more fun! Homemade, handmade and horticultural that's our moto!
After the devastating frost which garden owners have had to suffer and work through this year in Barrydale, we are pleased to say that there are 20 + gardens open to the public for Barrydale In Bloom. Gardens range from farm gardens to a private reserve; small vegetable plots to lovely rose gardens.
There will be more stalls as well this year selling all things homemade, handmade and horticultural. We have a tea room offering delicious homemade cakes and a place to rest and relax.
This is the second year that Barrydale residents have opened their gardens to the public and follows on from last year's very successful event.
The well known author Leslie Howard will be there to sign her new book on Barrydale, Barrydale Unplugged. She has since written a book of poems which will also be available.
Our poster for 2014 has been designed by one of the local school children. We had a drawing competition whereby 120 children from four different schools took part. After much deliberation, the winning entry was chosen. This was painted by a seven year.
A donation from proceeds, this year, will be going to our local hospice.
Barrydale In Bloom is a growing event which should not be missed. A must see for your October calender!
Why not make a weekend of your trip and stay in one of the lovely guest houses locally? We also have a wonderful hotel and many self catering cottages should you prefer to 'do your own thing'.
The Klein Karoo in Spring/early Summer is a wonderful place to come to and relax - get away from the city for a while and join us; you would be most welcome.
