Songs of Marikana

Locally produced show provide an insight into the lives of miners

A strong cast made up of dancers and singers takes you on a journey by delivering this hard hitting and contentious story through songs of freedom composed largely during the 1960's and 1970's. A blend of beautiful and at times haunting melodies with passionate and poetic lyrics expresses the hopes and fears of a generation of that time.

"Songs of Marikana" captures the miner's travels from their rural communities across Southern African to the hustle and buzz of city life, taking its audience through a journey of different cultures. It also touches on the issues facing miners on a daily basis, from loan sharks to multiple women and difficult working conditions.
