Tribute concert workshopMusic business workshop In the run-up to the annual Tribute Concert at Moretele Park on 30 August 2014, a free workshop is being held in Pretoria to assess the status of live entertainment in South Africa and Tshwane. All arts stakeholders are invited to be part of an in-depth discussion that delves into the state of the industry in general, and the live music scene in particular. Coming up for debate are topical issues affecting the music industry, such as contracts, rights administration (performing, mechanical and needletime rights), business management, publishing, recording, performances and so on. Facilitators include Professor Cosbie Mbele, a prominent author, musician, academic and cultural activist. What is the current state of the live entertainment industry - is it making progress, what are its failures and how does the future look? Young musicians and established professionals are invited to come and join the conversation with a view to moving forward positively with all the relevant information at their fingertips. For the City of Tshwane the Tribute Concert is more than a music festival. According to Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture in Tshwane, Cllr Nosipho Makeke-Tyobeka, the workshop is in line with the City's Creative Industries Strategy. "We want to create an after-effect that is meaningful for artists. It should assist them to develop their skills and empower them in their future endeavours," she said. The City is working towards bringing a new dimension to Tshwane wherein the arts should contribute and participate actively in the mainstream economy and cease to be a mere leisure activity. The Tribute Concert Music Workshop will take place at the Ditsong National Museum of Cultural History in Pretoria on Saturday, 23 August 2014, from 09:00 to 14:00. This free workshop is facilitated by Drakensberg Promotions and assisted by the Heritage Music School.
