Creating safe spaces at work

Join us for a discussion about sexual harassment in the workplace and how we can create safer spaces at work.

Sexual harassment is surprisingly commonplace in the workplace and has negative consequences for both the victim and the workplace culture in general. Most sexual harassment goes unnoticed, particularly the milder forms which usually happen 'around the water-cooler'. The line between innocent flirtatiousness and sexual harassment is often not clear, and often people overstep the boundaries, without even realising it.

This Mandela Day, 18 July, we invite you to spend your 67 minutes learning about sexual harassment in the workplace and taking steps to create a safer workplace, for women and men alike.

Rape Crisis is hosting a workshop on Friday 18 July, from 2:30-3:30, at the Pepper Club Hotel on Cnr Loop and Pepper Street, Cape Town. We will be talking about rape culture and how this plays out in the work environment, and discussing ways in which we can contribute to making our workplaces safer.

With Women's month approaching in August, this is also an ideal opportunity to consider Rape Crisis's corporate training and consultation service, Safe Space. We could host a talk at your place of work, do an assessment of your company's sexual harassment policy needs, or even consult with your Human Resources team around dealing with sexual harassment cases.

If you would like to join us, RSVP no later than 14 July. Snacks will be provided and spaces are offered on a first come first serve basis.

Date: 18 July 2014
