Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Summit

Theme: Sustainable Transformation of Rural Livelihoods for Poverty Alleviation.

The Strategic Thinking Institute invites you to attend the Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Summit, scheduled to take place in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa from 19th-21 of August 2014. At this summit, best practices approaches to poverty alleviation will be discussed based on lessons learnt from past experiences locally and in other countries; a participatory and environmentally sustainable growth strategy effective on poverty alleviation with the mobilization of the poor at its core. To assist in the design of such strategies the following issues are going to be addressed: poverty measurement; socio-economic processes that affect poverty; access to land, infrastructure, technology, social services, and labor and capital markets; reorienting government policies and institutions to improve the access of the rural poor to productive resources and markets; poverty alleviation through natural resources management and conservation; the situation of rural poor women; strategies for targeting specific groups including nomadic pastoralists and landless; and partnerships in development and the poor's participation.
