Comedians for SmilesUnique Cuban-themed comedy festival to hit Cape Town The Cuban-themed lifestyle and comedy festival, Comedians for Smiles: Havana Night, will run for one day only at Villiera Wine Farm near Stellenbosch, Cape Town, on Saturday 31 May in an effort to raise funds for the Cipla Miles for Smiles initiative, which raises funds to perform corrective surgery on children born with cleft lips and palates. The Cuban theme is inspired by Cipla Foundation managing trustee, David Grier, and his running partner Andrew Stuart's gruelling 1500km run across the Caribbean country, completed in January this year, also in an effort to raise funds for the Cipla Miles for Smiles initiative. To capture the spirit of this unique event, the public are encouraged to dress according to the Cuban theme when attending the festival. David Grier says that an event showstopper will be the silent auction, which will involve bids being placed on key Cuban-inspired art pieces from artist Louis Storm's collection, and will offer the public another opportunity to raise funds towards those born with cleft palates by purchasing one of these internationally sought-after pieces. The headline comic act will be Kagiso "KG" Mokgadi, and audience members can expect a barrel of laughs from the line-up which includes Mum-Z, Dalin Oliver, Brent Palmer and MC Carl Weber. Food stalls will also be to theme by offering Cuban and Latin American foods. Guests will be taken on a tour inside the Villiera farm building, experiencing a different Cuban experience in each room, with the final room leading to the main comedian show. Tickets, sold at R550, will include access to the comedy show featuring five comedians, and the opportunity to bid on the silent auction.
