Tom Waits Tribute by Ann Jangle & Mean Black MambaTom Waits is undoubtedly, like Bob Dylan one of the most important artists in the modern era of music. This prolific songwriter/poet/philisopher has inspired countless other artists in the world. With a uncanny ability to generate pictures and landcapes with very few words, his work (and his voice) has changed over the years from a young, feisty and swinging troubadour, to a musical prophet that can trigger almost shockingly strong emotions in his listeners. A fiercely independant thinker and an absolute wizard with words, Waits have created a style of music that it is uniquely his own and his millions of fans are very much like a "cult family". The vast discography of music this man has created should be declared an international heritage. It is thus impossible to do any more than "scrape the surface" of his work in only two hours A tribute show to this legend is therefor a rather daunting task ...to put it mildly. Rising to this challenge is the rapidly rising singing sensation on the local music scene Ann Jangle, together with the dark, footstomping and gravelly bluesrock duo Mean Black Mamba. A fanatical fan and student of Tom Waits, Ann Jangle has boldly stepped into the shoes where most others would fear to tread, but the raving reviews eminating from this performance is more than enough evidence that this collaboration has succeeded spectacularly. Mean Black Mamba consists of guitar and slide master Guy Collins. Collins is a another devoted Tom Waits disciple and a passionate student of the guitar. He has travelled extensively, studying and learning the techniques of the Mississippi Delta players and the great slide guitar masters of the US. James Minnon is a drummer and percussionist that has studied the grooves and rhythms of roots music extensively. Prepeare yourselves for a very special evening, and if you have never heard the music of Tom Waits, you dare not live in such ignorance any longer.
