This 2.5 day course will provide you with skills:
* In martial arts: basic self-defense; navigating crowds; rape avoidance
* In field work: avoiding crossfire; cover and camouflage; casualty evacuation; handling armed hostiles; paintball role-play
* On the shooting range: weapons identification and safety; firing and disarming; explosives and petrol bombs; roadblocks; moving under fire.

Who should attend:
This course is suitable for journalists, cameramen and photographers covering conflict including protests, mob violence, or situations where violence may erupt.

About the facilitator:
Allen was drafted in 1981 and joined the army in the Engineer Corps. He earned his wings in the 1st Parachute Battalion, and he completed his national service in Angola, as well as various operational camps in the Bush War. With his military duties behind him, he joined AECI, where he helped develop and test various commercially available explosives. He joined a local newspaper in the late 1980s, where he worked as a photographer covering everything newsworthy, later freelancing. Since then, Allen has also started up a security business, teaching close protection to people, using both his experience as photographer and security specialist.
