In collaboration with Singakwenza, the next Bright Start Outreach Programme workshop will be happening this Saturday, 15 March and will see attendees being taught how to make educational toys from recycled materials.
Bright Start's next Outreach Programme workshop will be happening this Saturday, 15 March from 8.45 until 13.00 at Silikamva High School in Hout Bay.
This is the second workshop for the year and will see Bright Start and Singakwenza conducting a Waste2Toys session in which attendees will be taught how to make quality educational toys out of recycled materials such as milk cartons, plastic bread bags and yoghurt containers.
Through educating their workshop attendees, Bright Start and Singakwenza hope to convey the importance of teaching through play, as well as the sustainable ease with which it can be done in communities with limited funds and accessibility to materials.
"Toys are an essential part of every child's development; they aid critical aspects of development such as cognitive, motor and social skills. It is through play that children learn to live in the world around them. This workshop will hopefully show people that children don't need expensive toys to have fun and to develop properly," says Robyn Brown, Outreach Programme Facilitator at Bright Start.
The R10 workshop fee is payable at the door and includes a Bright Start certificate, as well as food and drinks. Only the first 100 people will be accepted and attendees are encouraged to bring their own materials from home to add to those items provided.
