The Online Programme in IT Project Management runs over 20 weeks during which every delegate plays the role of a project manager, managing an IT project.
From the implementation of new software to the upgrading of existing hardware, this course aims to equip you with the theoretical and practical knowledge to run an information systems project.
The course takes delegates through the project life cycle and addresses the knowledge areas of PMBOK. At the start of the project, the delegate gets appointed as the project manager by an outsourcing company and is assigned some resources on their project team. Delegates are then expected to initiate and plan the project and get to work with the 'real' stakeholders of the project. Every week different events take place in the life of the project and the project manager needs to respond to these events. These responses are evaluated and delegates are given feedback and model answers. The weekly evaluations are used to grade delegates as the course progresses.
Typical project events which the project manager is expected to deal with range from management requesting a feasibility study, a programmer resigning, users complaining about the system and expenses occurred due to management changing policies or team members requesting leave. Delegates can respond by updating the project schedule and budget, estimating costs and/or time, firing and hiring team members or asking for time extensions or more money. The course is concluded with a project and course review and all successful delegates will receive certificates.
