Sex Determination & Gender Identity
The third and last presentation in "The Science of our Times" series: "Sex Determination & Gender Identity" presented by one of South Africa's leading medical scientists, Prof Michael Pepper from the University of Pretoria.
The third presentation in this series will examine the relationships between biological sex (physical and psychological) and gender (defined by the World Health Organization as socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women). This will be contrasted to the lack of clarity on the mechanisms underlying sexual orientation. The interrelationship between biological sex, gender identity and sexual orientation has widespread implications.
