Dr David Livermore, President and Partner at the Cultural Intelligence Centre in East Lansing, Michigan (USA) is coming to South Africa for the first time to introduce this concept through a series of half-day seminars entitled "Develop Your Cultural Intelligence."
Cultural Intelligence is defined as "a person's capability to function effectively in situations characterized by cultural diversity." It is not only an essential competency for firms with global interests, but is very useful in helping us understand and engage effectively with the diverse peoples in our own country.
"We've often engaged in diversity workshops for various companies where people feel like they don't need this, because they already interact well with people from different cultures. Up until now, there has been no way to measure or quantify this assertion," says Stacey Dlamini from Young & Able. "What Cultural Intelligence (CQ) provides us are academically credible tools by which CQ can be assessed and improved. And this has huge implications for our ability to work together effectively both in our companies, and as a nation."
