2nd Annual UWC Entrepreneurship Colloquium

UWC, understanding the key role of entrepreneurship in the context of stimulating small business growth, wants to position itself strongly in this space.

The purpose of the Colloquium is to develop a culture of entrepreneurial development and support at university level in order to give students tools to confidently explore entrepreneurship and to contribute to the economy as job creators rather than job seekers. The Colloquium seeks to create a space where Government, Business and Academics can collectively explore the role that they will play in developing entrepreneurial activity together to re-direct the South African economy.

The Colloquium will allow for various perspectives to be highlighted. Through the global perspective we want to address global and mega trends, and draw comparisons to the challenges that South Africa faces.

The African perspective will bring other African academic institutions to UWC to share the best practices that they are utilising on the Continent.

A South African stakeholder perspective will take the form of panel discussion, sharing success stories and best practise in various categories:

Western Cape higher education institutions including UWC, the Cape Peninsula University
of Technology (CPUT), Stellenbosch University, Tertiary School in Business Administration (Tsiba)will profile current programmes supporting entrepreneurial development. Representatives from the replace with Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the Western Cape Economic Development Partnership and the Department of Higher Education and Training represent a government perspective.

A corporate perspective is presented by Dr Vincent Maphai, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and Transformation, South African Breweries (SAB) (Pty) Limited.

Successful entrepreneurs at the helm of big and small businesses will share stories on their entrepreneurial journey. The entrepreneurs are: Fred Roberston, Brimstone Investment Corporation Limited, Nontwenhle Mchunu, Ezulwini Chocolat, and Ashley Uys, Real World and Medical Diagnostech.

Doing Business Uncovered: Vanessa Hall, an international expert, will present on the role of Trust in Business. Karl Smith's tools and guidelines will ensure that participants will be able to optimally utilise the opportunity for networking. Iegshaan Ariefdien will share insights on supporting entrepreneurs through incubation.
