The Science of our Times: Stem Cells

The first presentation in "The Science of our Times" series: "Stem Cells - the Hype and the Hope," presented by Prof Michael Pepper from the University of Pretoria.

The first presentation in this series will take us back to the early stages of human development with a view to defining the origin and nature of stem cells. Controversies in stem cell research will be discussed, including the ethical and moral implications of embryonic stem cells. There is no doubt that stem cells have enormous therapeutic potential. Regrettably however, this potential is open to exploitation in emotionally vulnerable patients.
