Full-moon picnic at the Taalmonument

Do you believe in the man in the moon or that the moon is made out of cheese? Come and take a closer look at the full moon from the Taalmonument on Paarlberg, at their first full-moon picnic of the season on Saturday 19 October. Local as well as international visitors enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.

Sunset will be at 19:03 and moonrise at 19:43. There will be guided tours of the monument at 18:30 and 19:30. The monument will be open until 22:00.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800 Volksmond will be open until 22:00 for coffee and light refreshments.

Entrance fees at the gate are R20 for adults, R10 for students and R5 for children (free under six years). No booking required. Visitors are reminded to bring a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.

Full-moon picnics are also scheduled for Saturday 16 November (sunset 18:31, moonrise 19:29) and Tuesday 17 December (sunset 19:55, moonrise 19:55).

The monument's operating hours will be extended until 20:00 for the summer season from December to March.
