National Wool Week

Wool Week will present wool as a modern, versatile, lifestyle fibre steeped in history and wonder, and will be hosted at Sandton City, Johannesburg.

Wool Week will feature SA's most popular clothing retailers showcasing this versatile fibre, alongside its interior uses within busy family homes.

Joining forces with the Campaign for Wool, Cape Wools is determined to showcase wool as a modern fibre with a wide range of uses, finishes, colours and textures that can be executed in fashion and the home.

Beautiful interior pieces are increasing in number as contemporary designers are looking to this natural and sustainable commodity which creates a sense of warmth and colour in the home. From carpets to upholstery and bedding, the possibilities are great and according to top SA interior designer and stylist, Tracey Lee Lynch, there is an international trend towards sustainability which is well supported in South Africa.

Interaction and education will feature strongly at Wool Week as visitors will have the opportunity to mingle with knitters who are assisting in a scarf drive for local television show, Expresso; while 'yarn bombing' will adorn the trees in Nelson Mandela Square in a haze of woollen colours. Educators and students can learn more about wool and its uses through the Story of Wool featured in the education section. De Beer commented that there is a strong need for education on this versatile fibre as the world's resources slowly diminish, this sustainable fibre should be visible in children's minds.
