The State of the Nation

The Nation is in question as everyone contemplates where South Africa is going to be in the next couple of years. Issues surrounding the National Development Plan (NDP) include tackling problems such as poverty, inequality and unemployment. These are to be prioritised, along with the issues of housing, electricity, public transport, education, healthcare and social protection. However, how are these issues going to be addressed? These problems have been challenging to overcome due to the past global economic recession as well as the proclamation made by the government of the United Kingdom stating that they will no longer be giving South Africa any aid.

It appears that globalisation may have destabilised the state as a colossal supporter of public welfare. Research suggests that the elation of prosperity due to aid started in the 1990's, however it did not last long as we find ourselves continually discussing and contemplating the State.
