Joburg Pops is Pure Jozi Gold

Performing under the baton of Michael Hankinson, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with singing legends, new and old, including PJ Powers, Timothy Moloi, Sibongile Mngoma, Clint Cunningham and Anneke Visagie.

'It is always such a treat to hear a pop song being sung by such talented vocalists while being performed by a full orchestra. It brings a whole new dimension to the song,' says Hankinson.

Hankinson brings to the stage a wealth of orchestral experience, including having previously served as Principal Conductor of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and having founded the Durban City Orchestra.

PJ Powers or Thandeka, as she is affectionately known, needs no introduction. She has enjoyed a highly successful musical career spanning over three decades during which time she has gathered fans from all walks of life.

Joining her on the stage in the 2013 edition of Joburg Pops is Timothy Moloi whose velvety voice and masterful range has earned him awards and accolades for his work as a soloist as well as for his performances in numerous stage productions.

Clint Cunningham is no stranger to the stage with humble beginnings he is now enjoying real success with his shows including his highly acclaimed Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute, Joe Cocker and Friends and The Midnight Hour appearing in top theatres.

Acclaimed soprano Sibongile Mngoma has performed all over the world from London's Royal Albert Hall to the Tel Aviv Opera House singing major roles in The Magic Flute, La Boheme, Porgy and Bess and Carmen. Her repertoire includes everything from classical opera to jazz and gospel.

All about diversity and music crossover, the final performer in the Joburg Pops line-up is freelance musician and singer Anneke Visagie. A regular performer in musical stage products, at corporate functions and on album recordings, Visagie is also a member of several bands and will bring a funky cool edge to this year's Pops.
