Effective minutes for successful meetings

Are you in an administrative post where you need to keep effective minutes? Do you have difficulties compiling and writing up these minutes? Do you sometimes wonder about the importance of your role as minute keeper?
We can help you become more familiar with meeting procedures and minute writing in our interactive workshop Effective minutes for successful meetings (a two-day series).

Workshop content
Day 1: Meeting and minutes procedures
This full-day workshop is aimed at administrative personnel who are responsible for keeping minutes of meetings in their work environments. It gives participants an opportunity to sharpen their skills in an interactive, practical way, and to receive answers to their questions about minute keeping and the meeting process in general.

A number of aspects regarding minute keeping will be discussed, such as the choice of an appropriate narrative style, and the various sections of which minutes generally consist. However, the idea is not to furnish participants with a recipe or a single, rigid template for minutes, but rather to give guidelines and to leave room for the discussion of different contexts and styles.

Day 2: Writing skills for effective minutes
This full-day workshop is aimed at administrative personnel who are responsible for keeping minutes of meetings in their work environments. The workshop consists of a theoretical session and a more practical session. To make the practical session as valuable and relevant as possible to those who attend, we require all participants to bring along at least one set of minutes that they have written themselves, in either English or Afrikaans.

During the morning session, we will focus on the general writing skills required for writing minutes. In the practical session after lunch, all participants will have an opportunity to discuss their own minutes with a writing consultant, and receive answers to their particular questions on minute writing.
