Be seranaded by Cito and a Spanish GuitarGold Reef City presents Cito, the popular lead singer of South African super group, Wonderboom for two performances only on 18 and 19 January. Cito will be bringing to life the music and lyrics of his Spanish influenced childhood in his sell out show, El Cantante, which will be hosted at The Globe Theatre. El Cantante, which means the singer, is a celebratory acoustic journey of the Spanish Classics which Cito grew up listening and singing to as a youngster growing up in Queens, New York City. The show played to full houses last year and The Globe Theatre is honoured to bring this talented musician back to Jozi due to popular demand. Fellow band member and close friend, guitarist extraordinaire, Martin Schofield, accompanies Cito on guitar. 'These classics are part of my best childhood memories, singing them around our home constantly but I have never performed them on stage before,' says Cito. 'I'm blown away by the amazing response to the show so far. It seems the audiences are really appreciating my Spanish vocals and song selection.' The Globe Theatre's intimate, 'lounge-style' setting is the perfect backdrop for El Cantante and audiences will be treated to an evening of pure delight as they are seduced by the sheer talent of these two consummate musicians. Cito will also surprise audiences by joining in on the guitar himself. The show is built around the rhythms and styles of bolero, tango, mambo, tejano, mariachi and traditional folklorica, highlighting traditional favourites from countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and others. A selection of Pop favourites presented in Cito's unique arrangements include recognisable classics La Bamba, Mi Tierra (Gloria Estefan) and Sobrevivire (I will survive). Born in Los Angeles to Peurto Rican parents, Cito has been living in South Africa since his teens. He has forged a successful career in music and has recently wowed audiences with his theatrical performances in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chess and Queen at the Ballet. Multi-SAMA nominee Martin Schofield is one of the country's musical treasures and aside from his long term partnership with Cito in Wonderboom, he was recently appointed as MD of the 2012 SAMA awards and appeared on Idols SA Season 8. 'El Cantante' will be showing at The Globe Theatre at Gold Reef City on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 January, 2013 at 20:00. Tickets cost R120, with group books for 10 or more being R100.
