Milla SA is pleased to announce the 4th Rural Development Conference, 2013. Rural development plays a major role in maintaining the viability of not only agriculture but the entire socio-economic, environmental and cultural cohesion of rural communities. This year's theme focuses on the future we want to achieve by analysing the actual situation within rural South Africa and Africa in terms of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats while taking the broader economic environment into consideration. How to best use the SWOT and PESTLE analyses to meet the needs of rural communities is an important process. Sustainable rural communities need to be created through the identification of common interests, negotiation and design of partnership arrangements. Mentorship and advisory services are key to the success of such initiatives which require a continuous process of identification of gaps and opportunities as a means of achieving sustainable growth.
Why is the Rural Development conference 2013 taking place?
To foster knowledge transfer and innovation in agriculture, tourism, forestry and rural SMEs
To enhance competitiveness of all types of agriculture thus enhancing small scale to medium farm/land viability

To restore, preserve and enhance ecosystems dependent on agriculture and forestry
To promote social inclusion, poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas
To promote resource efficiency and supporting the shift towards a low-carbon and climate resilient economy in the rural areas in agriculture, food security, tourism, forestry, and manufacturing sectors
To identify the core priorities for funding support under future CRDP, including the need to make choices and to concentrate resources to maximise impact
To review the extent of geographical and spatial targeting, considering how the needs and opportunities of urban and rural areas can best be supported and how we might exploit the benefits they offer
To identify the best ways of contributing towards the goals of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, including use of innovative financial investment instruments
To consider the balance and scope for integration of the various funds whilst maximising the impact of these investments
To review delivery approaches with the aim of facilitating easier access to funds, while still ensuring high quality projects
