Sterrekykpiekniek by die Taalmonument

Sterrekykgeesdriftiges kan weer eens uitsien na 'n reeks sterrekykpieknieks by die Afrikaanse Taalmonument op Paarlberg waar besoekers 'n piekniek kan geniet sowel as die sterrehemel kan verken.

Die volgende sterrekykpiekniek vind op Saterdag 12 Januarie 2013 plaas. Dit word in samewerking met die Orion Observasie Groep (OOG), 'n informele sterrrekundeklub van die Boland, aangebied.

Die piekniek begin om 18:00. 'n Begeleide toer van die Monument word om 18:30 aangebied. Besoekers kan van 20:00 tot 22:30 onder leiding van lede van OOG deur teleskope na die sterre kyk.

Toegang by die hek is R25 vir volwassenes en R10 vir kinders. Bespreek by tel. 021 863 0543/4809 of 072 181 6744 (ook vir weernavrae). Sterrekykpieknieks sal gekanselleer word indien die weer sleg is.

Besoekers is welkom om hul eie piekniekmandjies saam te bring of een by Volksmond Koffiewinkel te bestel (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond sal oop wees vir koffie en ligte verversings.

Veilige parkering is beskikbaar en toegang word beheer. Besoekers word aangemoedig om verkykers en warm klere saam te bring.

Sterrekykpieknieks vind ook plaas op 16 Februarie en 23 Maart 2013.

Stargazing picnic at the Taalmonument

Stargazing enthusiasts can once again look forward to a series of stargazing picnics at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument on Paarl Mountain, where visitors can enjoy a picnic while they discover the night skies.

The next stargazing picnic is scheduled for Saturday 12 January 2013. It is presented in collaboration with the Orion Observation Group (OOG), an informal stargazing club in the Boland.

The picnic starts at 18:00. A guided tour of the Monument starts at 18:30. From 20:00 to 22:30 visitors can watch the skies through telescopes under the guidance of OOG members.

Entrance is R25 for adults and R10 for children. To book, call tel. 021 863 0543/4809 or 072 181 6744 (also for weather enquiries). Stargazing evenings will be cancelled if the weather is bad.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond will be open for coffee and light refreshments.

No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled. Visitors are advised to bring along binoculars and warm clothes.

Stargazing picnics are also scheduled for 16 February and 23 March 2013.

The monument's operating hours will be extended until 20:00 for the summer season from October to March.
