Jozi South MarathonTake a run down memory lane with Gold Reef City Casino and the Jozi South Marathon It is time to get your running shoes on as Gold Reef City Casino hosts the Jozi South Marathon in conjunction with Tame Times, and The Brotherhood Athletics Club on 21 October 2012. Be one of the first 2000 participants and receive a running shirt on the race day. This event is expected to be loads of fun with thousands of people, young and old participating in the three distances. Whether you run or walk, there is something for everyone - a 21km, 10km and 4km. The route offers runners and walkers spectacular views of several iconic monuments and go past well known landmarks in and around Gold Reef City. The half marathon and 10km races will start at 07:00 at the Apartheid Museum gate. Runners will then proceed along Northern Parkway towards the right from the Apartheid museum, passing the imposing FNB Stadium, which is sure to bring back memories of the 2010 World Cup Soccer. The race then heads towards Soweto for a taste of the township's famous vibe before heading back to the finish at Gold Reef City Casino's main gate. The 4km fun run starting at 07:30 within the grounds of the Gold Reef City Theme Park, is a great excuse to spend some fun time with your children or grandchildren. Runners are then encouraged to gather on the grassy area outside the main entrance of the casino for prize-giving and then to stay on and experience all that Gold Reef City Casino and the adjacent theme park have to offer. Entry for the 21km race is R70 plus R20 for a temporary licence, the 10km race costs R40 to enter and R15 for a temporary license and the 4km fun run is R20 to enter. Runners can register online at www.enteronline.co.za. Entries will also be available at Sportsman's Warehouse at the Glen Shopping Centre. Registration can also be done at Gold Reef City Casino from 05h00 on race day. The Northern Parkway will be closed to all cars from the main gate area on the day of the race. All road closures will be published in the Tame Times and road posters will also indicate which roads will be closed during the race. The Theme park and Apartheid Museum parking will not be affected once the race has started. Access via the tollgate will be free for all cars coming in from 4am on the 21 until 10am on the day of the race.
