Adobe Indesign

There is not one program that can "do it all". A combination of programs is needed in order to achieve a successful result.

The essence to learning a computer program - correct use of the tools. In eight evening lectures the following will be covered:

This is the page layout program. Indesign is used primarily (in the context of this course) to set up adverts, brochures, stationery, or books. If photographs are to be used, they will be the ones that have been treated in Photoshop, so that they are looking at their best and fulfill all printing requirements (quality and resolution).

This is the program that handles text in the best way. A large part of this program deals with good practices for formatting text and the principles of typography, taking into account legibility and readability. Indesign keeps track of the page order and page sizing and the way the text and images are handled within the document. There are many different attributes of text that are demonstrated on this course - much like you would see in a book or magazine today.

A small, basic set of stationery is designed, a small food menu, an A4 Magazine advert and a double page spread for a magazine.

In summary, Indesign handles the text and pages. All the new features of Indesign CS6 will be covered, such as the new liquid layouts, content collector tool, buttons and forms, folio builder, digital publishing in Indesign.
