A workshop for budding screenwriters

A basic workshop for budding screenwriters will take place at The Writing Studio in Cape Town on four Saturday afternoons between 2pm and 5pm from 29 September.

The practical and motivational The Write Journey workshop explores the relationship between the screenwriter and structure, the art of building narrative, how to turn ideas into stories, developing characters, and understanding what it takes to be a screenwriter and mastering the writing process.

With local films like Die Wonderwerker being a hit at the box office, the booming of the local film and television industries, and the international demand for South African stories, it has never been a better time for aspirant scribes to sharpen their screenwriting talent.

The workshop is presented by trainer Daniel Dercksen, a published screenwriter, playwright and journalist, who has been teaching workshops throughout South Africa the past 18 years and will also be doing a masterclass at the
French-South African Kunjanimation Animation festival that takes place in Cape Town in October.

The workshop is also ideal for novelists who would like to adapt their stories into a visual medium, as well as for playwrights who would like to hone their craft.
