Dance for All offers Bridging ProgrammeDance for All (DFA) is offering a one-year programme on which students will learn skills that bridge the gap between being a dance student and becoming a professional dancer. Applications are open to any senior dance students who wish to pursue a career in dance, and who have graduated from school or will finish matric in 2012. An audition class will be held at Dance for All, 10 Aden Avenue, Athlone, on Saturday 22 September 2011 from 11h00 to 13h00. Senior dance students on DFA's Specialised Dance Programmes will also be auditioned. Students accepted onto the programme will receive individual guidance and assistance in developing their talents from DFA's team of talented and experienced teachers, all of whom are former professional dancers. From time to time, guest teachers and choreographers will also work with Bridging Programme students and there will be guest lecturers for subjects that complement the course material. The aim of the Bridging Programme is to offer insight into what is expected of a professional dancer and to groom students accordingly, while simultaneously building up their technique and stamina. As versatility is essential in the performing arts industry, students will receive training in a variety of disciplines, including Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, African and Spanish Dance, as well as choreography and Pilates. Bridging Programme students will automatically become members of DFA's non-professional InSPIRAtions Youth Company, which offers abundant opportunities to build up performance experience. DFA successfully piloted its Bridging Programme In 2011 when senior students who had received dance training at Western Cape Education Department Focus Schools for the Arts approached DFA CEO Philip Boyd for further training, because they had heard about the organisation's high standard. Dance for All, a non-profit Section 21 Company, is headed by Boyd, a former CAPAB Ballet Principal dancer, who founded DFA in 1991. Classes are offered in various forms of dance to about 1,000 children from historically disadvantaged communities. At least 30 DFA students have gone on to follow careers in the performing arts, as dancers, choreographers or teachers. One former Bridging Programme student is now dancing professionally and four have received placements with respected dance institutions for further professional training.
