Art school - bridging course for scholars

Create a portfolio of work to apply for entry to an art school.

The purpose of this course is to enable grade 11 and 12 scholars with no previous art or design background to produce a portfolio of work. Each week a new topic will be discussed relating to drawing, colour theory and the relevant methods. Related projects will encourage the exploration of skills and techniques. Scholars will be able to confidently approach a drawing or painting and understand how to effectively communicate the mood.

Duration: 10 lectures
Lectures: Saturday mornings

Scholars must have the required stationery and art supplies to be able to complete the course. Ensure you have the following items when the course commences:

Graphite pencils HB, 2B, 4B
Eraser
Ruler
Sketch pad A3 (110 gms)
Paintbrushes - size 4, 8, 12 (ProArt is affordable, available at Herbert Evans)
1x Fabriano board 50cm x 70cm
Gouache paint set - a Reeves or Talens set (available at Herbert Evans)

The portfolio module will require cardboard, this can be decided on at a later stage - it is not necessary to buy a portfolio bag.

Estimated material costs to be between R200 - R 300 depending on which paints are bought and how much paper is used.
