HHP Celebrity Scrabble ChallengeHHP is crazy about playing Scrabble -and he has put this passion to good use by encouraging his peers in the entertainment industry to play Scrabble to highlight the importance of playing to learn and learning to play in the interest of literacy and learning, while raising funds for one of his favourite charities, Active Learning Toy Libraries South Africa (ALL-SA) HHP and nearly 40 of his "celebrity" friends are getting together on 18 August to play in the C.N.A-Mattell HHP Celebrity Scrabble Challenge hosted by the Jacobs Pop-up Café in Parkhurst. Scrabble SA will be running the competition to find our 2012 winner. And you can play too - are you Game? For a donation to the charity, individuals and corporates will have the chance to pit their skills against these celebrities while helping to raise money for a great cause. ALL-SA has developed 170 Toy Libraries around the country and have thousands of Early Childhood Practitioners trained in play-action, creating jobs of empowerment for unemployed women and men in becoming toy librarians. ALL-SA's aim is to have a toy library in reach of every child in South Arica. A Toy Library is a venue or mobile resource which offers communities access to a selection of toys, games and puzzles on a "Borrow and Return" basis (which encourages active play at home and at schools) or on a "Come and Play" basis (which offers play sessions at the toy library). The Toy Libraries promote and facilitate the use of play and play materials for early stimulation, fun, and relief from stress, filling in the skill gaps of primary school children and strengthening the family unit. Play enables children the opportunity to learn, to have fun, to just be children and then to go on to be successful and well-rounded adults. Through blocks, puzzles, indigenous games, dress up and playing ball, children stimulate their minds, body and soul. South Africa is a country that has forgotten the importance of play and it is through toys that we as parents, teachers and practitioners can enhance the crucial developmental phases that a child needs to reach in order to grow both physiologically, socially and emotionally.
