Find your voice as a writer

The Write Voice creative writing workshop offers writers a unique opportunity to find their purpose in writing and to explore the endless possibilities they have to tell their story and express themselves.

The workshop takes place on five Saturday afternoons from June 2 from 2pm until 5pm at the studio in Green Point, Cape Town

During the motivational and inspirational workshop writers will explore their strengths and weakness as a writer as well as the relationship between the writer and the writing process, how to write, as well as what it takes to be a writer and how to navigate creativity.

The workshop looks at how to come to terms with your writing self and artistic temperament, exploring the writer's unique creative nature and how to unlock creativity. It examines the process of creative writing and takes a closer look at the conscious self versus the subconscious and unconscious self and five stages of creative expression.

It also looks at the mechanics of drama, story and the medium through which the writing will be expressed, what makes a story dynamic and well written and how to maximise creative expression.

Any craftsman needs tools that will support the creative process and turn writing into a pleasant and prosperous experience, and during the workshop writers will look at how to take command of their writing space and comfort zone (writing zone), learn how to sell themselves as a writer and sign a contract with themselves.

On the last session the writers will be reading a short story they wrote during the workshop and get constructive feedback on their writer's voice.

The workshop is presented by Daniel Dercksen, a published playwright who has been a film and theatre journalist for 30 years. As a qualified ETD Practitioner (Education, Training and Development), Daniel has been teaching workshops in screenwriting, creative writing and filmmaking throughout South Africa the past 18 years.

This workshop is ideal for storytellers, actors or anyone who needs motivation and takes place on Saturday, June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 2pm until 5pm, at The Writing Studio, Somerset Road, Green Point, Cape Town
