Homegrown High-End Design Indaba Expo![]() The aim of the Design Indaba Conference and the Design Indaba Magazine is to expose the delegates to cutting edge design trends, opinions and techniques. The conference has hosted among others Sir Terence Conran, Li Edelkoort, Oliviero Toscani, Vince Frost, Ozwald Boateng and Lucille Tenazas and will feature the likes of Peter Saville, Ilse Crawford, Tyler Brule and Karim Rashid in 2004. It is the largest design event in the southern hemisphere and is regarded as one of the premier design events in the world. Latterly, it has developed extensions in the areas of education and business development, in the form of student sessions, academic seminars, workshops and the Construction New Media Awards (more information about these can be found at www.designindaba.com). The inaugural Design Indaba Expo will run concurrently and astride the International Design Indaba and operates under the same ideology - improve the South African economy through quality design. It is both a consumer and business component that will showcase only the very best of South Africa "design for sale" to the local and international market. To ensure the integrity and ideological buy-in of the Design Indaba Expo, potential exhibitors will be required to submit their work for analysis by an advisory panel representative of the creative industries in South Africa. In addition, international buyers and decision makers have been invited to attend the Expo with a view to providing exhibitors with the tools and insight required through breakaway sessions. To date these include Lucille Lewin of Lewin Design (ex Liberties Creative Director), Nicole Farhi, Moira Benigson (Executive Placement Consultant), Lucia van der Post (London Times) and Suzanne Tide-Frater (Selfridges).
