ProVox Professional Development Programme is presented over two periods of five days each.During the six weeks break between the first and second week learners are required to prepare assessments
The Professional Development programme has been designed for individuals already working in public relations departments, consultancies or related fields.
Programme content:
The profession: Challenges and functions of the public relations practitioner. Ethics.
Communication theories: How do we succeed in persuading our target publics to change their attitudes, opinions and behaviour? How do stereotyping, gatekeepers and opinion leaders affect awareness campaigns?
Specialisation areas: Marketing communication. Investor Relations. Environmental Relations. Corporate identity. Corporate advertising. Employee communication. Community relations.
Social investment: Special events. Sponsorships. Media relations. Crisis communication.
Research: Measure the effectiveness of public relations tactics.
Internet technology trends and its impact on PR.
PR campaign planning and management.
Programme format and assessments:
The lectures are from 08:30 to 16:00 each day. During the break between the first and second week learners are required to prepare formative assessments. All assessments are practical work and will be based on the organisations they are employed with to ensure effective transfer of skills. At the end of the programme a 5-hour assessment based on a case study is written. The assessment is written in February, August and November.
Entry requirements:
Learners must have a degree or three-year diploma, or the ProVox Centre Certificate in the Basic Principles of Public Relations and two years' public relations related experience, or Grade 12 (Matric) and three years' public relations related experience.
The programme fee includes notes, textbooks, assessment fees and registration with PRISA for one year.
