Fledge day

FLEDGE celebrates diversity, creativity and all that is proudly South African. A brand new event starring up and coming artists, designers and performers at one amazingly laid back venue.

Is it a market? An expo? A fair? Show? Exhibition? Festival? Gimme a clue?!!

It's FLEDGE. And it can't be placed in a box. It wants to fly.

Imagine stalls selling the edgiest fashion, next to a stand with the most delicate jewellery between the sharpest photography adjacent to an interactive graffiti display flanked by a band inspired by the art around with the smell of coffee and cupcakes wafting through the air of ... oh I could go on and on... but ja, you get the pic :)

FLEDGE was recently formed by a group of young and spirited professionals with a strong passion for design in South Africa. Navigating the waters of the working world, we believe it is up to our generation to lead a design revolution. We hope to challenge the status quo by showing that youth and a limited budget can prove to be advantageous on the path towards success.

A catalyst for the promotion of up and coming designers, FLEDGE aims to showcase the work of artists, musicians and designers, aged 16 to 35 years, through a blend of exhibitions, performances and stalls.

The process is as follows:

- We invite all aspiring artists to submit a portfolio of their best work, and select the most promising 30 to be FLEDGE-LINGS. Those not selected will be given tips on how to improve so as to be selected for the next FLEDGE DAY.
- The FLEDGE-LINGS will then have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work, however, our primary focus is to ensure key industry leaders are present at FLEDGE to potentially spot a star in the making.
- In addition, the public are also invited to engage in the interactive design events that will be part of FLEDGE DAY, to spread the message that design is for all.

We aim to create a space where everyone can experience the freshest talent Cape Town has to offer through an exciting blend of stalls, live gigs and fashion shows.
