Ebony launches 'In Still Light' - Marc Stanes

EBONY is celebrating the launch of 'In Still Light' with Marc Stanes signing copies from 11am - 2pm at EBONY'S Franschhoek showroom. A small exhibition of images from the book will also accompany the launch.

Delighting in nearly 20 years of his most memorable studio photographic images, the celebrated international photographer Marc Stanes is launching his new book 'In Still Light' at EBONY in Franschhoek (the exclusive décor, furniture and fine art boutique he co-owns with partners Dewald Prinsloo and Leonard de Villiers)

'In Still Light' (published by Jonathan Cooper in the UK and South Africa 2010) is an individually numbered limited edition publication featuring a carefully considered selection of Stanes' much-adored still life photography taken between 1992 and 2010; a provocative exploration of Stanes' fascination with the beauty, sculptural quality and abstract construction of the natural world.

Since his first solo still life photographic exhibition in London in 1994, Stanes' works have frequently been shown in the USA, UK and SA and enjoy representation in private and public collections across the globe. In Cape Town Stanes is represented by Focus Contemporary whilst both the Franschhoek and Camps Bay EBONY stores also carry his work.

Stanes' 25 year photography career is also highlighted by his portrait work of subjects ranging from royalty to world leaders. His acclaimed portraits of Nelson Mandela form part of his long term photographic association with the Mandela Rhodes Foundation.

Stanes' lifelong passion for the arts is pioneering; both through his role as curator of EBONY'S art exhibitions and, by way of his craft, his instrumental support and fundraising efforts for various local AIDS charities and UK based charity Birthright (Wellbeing for Women). His most recent London solo exhibition, Naked Sculpture, supported the SA charity Positive Heroes.

'In Still Light' retails for R550.00 - Available (nationally) through both EBONY stores (as well as these fine book stores: Clarke's Bookshop, The Book Lounge, The Bay Bookshop, SMAC (Stellenbosch Modern & Contemporary Gallery) and Kalk Bay Books).
