Learn how to master the principles of photography and manage digital workflow from basics to more advanced options during this intensive photography course.

Week 1

Class 1
Discuss and implement program. Composition, colour, etc.

Class 2
Golden formula in photography: theory on light, film/sensor and exposure.

Weekend
Build pinhole camera load film and determine exposure times. Take photograph with pinhole camera.
Darkroom technique: Develop and print pinhole photo.

Week 2

Class 1
Lenses: All about focal distances, applications, depth of field and the digital influence and conversions.

Class 2
Digital Darkroom: Understanding RAW, jpeg, tiff and other file extensions.

Weekend
Workshop at Botshabelo. Available light portraiture on location.

Week 3

Class 1
The Camera: conventional to digital. Understanding and using different settings.

Class 2
Digital Darkroom: Image bank file management Adobe Lightroom and RAW manipulation.

Weekend
Outing to Union Buildings / Zoo / Church Square. City and landscapes- digital.

Week 4

Class 1
Basic studio lighting and flash-light photography, glass and metal.

Class 2
Digital Darkroom: Working with Photoshop new elements and clever sharpening.

Weekend
Studio - Table Top Photography: Black and white line with glass and liquids.

Week 5

Class 1
Studio lights portraiture. The five basic light positions.

Class 2
Digital Darkroom: Working with layers and multi images in Photoshop and Photo Paint.

Weekend
Studio - Portrait photography.

Week 6

Class 1
Theory on commercial photography and display, lay out, composition, placing and type faces.

Class 2
Digital Darkroom: Optimise portraits convert to good monochromes, duotones and translate into high and low-key images.

Weekend:
Photo shoot for lifestyle ad.

Week 7
Photoshop/Photopaint. Basic word processing for advertising.
Copywriting for brochures and ads.
AV production.
Legal aspects.

Week 8
AV production continued.
Photojournalism
Street photography

Week 9 and 10:
Compile lifestyle ad.
Mounting and presentation.
Prepare for exhibition.
