Help raise R100k for charity by supporting the Rotary Art Festival at Hyde Park Shopping Centre from August 10-15.
Joburg's art-lovers have something exceptional to look forward to this August, when the Rotary Club of Rosebank hosts its now legendary annual art festival in the Hyde Park Shopping Centre. Once again, it's all about affordable art for a good cause.
At the grand opening on Tuesday 10 August at 18:00, visitors and guest celebrities will be able to enjoy a glass of wine while viewing over 150 fine artworks by 37 local artists - many of whom will be available to meet on the night. This year special guest artist Vivien Budge is joined by ever-popular guest artists Paul Botes, Sue Kemp, Chrysoula Argyros, Joan Sainsbury and Hazel Thompson. Among the 29 other participating artists are two mouth painters, Elsie Fouché and Rudy Lombard.
Exhibition categories include
Landscapes,
Still Life,
Portraits,
Figurative,
Miniatures,
Botanical,
Contemporary,
Travel and
RecreationRaffle tickets will once again be on sale over the five days of the festival, giving visitors a chance to win one of two stunning donated artworks, valued at over R20 000. The raffle draw, held at 16:00 on Sunday 15 August, will determine who walks away with a much-coveted Paul Botes landscape masterpiece, 'Bush Path in Nottingham Road', or the equally desirable 'Tuareg Tribesman' by Vivien Budge.
A successful new addition to the festival last year - and back by popular demand - is the display of miniature artworks produced specifically for the exhibition. These are popular purchases for babies' bedrooms and kids' playrooms as well as for pub areas.
As Rotary is a not-for-profit organisation, the net proceeds of the art festival will, as always, go to worthy causes. This year the Rotary Club hopes to raise R100 000 for beneficiaries including Lukhanyo Simla, a gifted blind black boy attending Prinshof School in Pretoria; Patricia Gumbi, a 14-year-old AIDS orphan in Alexandra; and the Phuthadichaba Community Centre and Clinic in Alexandra, which is in desperate need of computer and internet facilities.
