NGO's: Build a communication toolkit

Learn to write with purpose and impact for a sustainable Africa.

This intensive one day course is designed to provide those grassroots development organisations that do not have a full time communications and marketing manager with practical communications tools to support your NGO's visibility, donor accountability and fund raising effectiveness.
While the recession has all of us focused on fundraising, no fundraising drive can be successful without effective communications.

Numbers are limited. Requests from other provinces are welcome as regional dates are planned.

Focus areas:
Ideally suited for Project Managers, Development officers working in rural community development including focus areas such as education, health, water and sanitation, enterprise development, conservation, eco-tourism, agriculture and food security.

The course outline will include items such as:
• How to develop a communication strategy
• How to write an impact story
• Dealing with the media
• How to write a press release for the Media
• Interviewing beneficiaries and stakeholders
• Photography and basic editing
• News letter design
• Donor reports
• Monitoring and evaluation reporting
• Fundraising proposal writing
• Annual reports
Basic Requirements:
Basic computer literacy in Word, your own web based email account. You will need to bring a flash drive or CD containing your organisation's mission statement, project objectives and a short paragraph about one of your active projects you wish to showcase, as well as 2-5 photos of your project.
Computers with internet access will be provided.

About the Trainer:
Kristina Gubic of Africanscribe Media has ten years media and communications experience. She has written for several international magazines and newspapers on the topic of corporate social investment, community development in education, health and enterprise development and specialises in environment, water, conservation, eco-tourism and rural community development issues.

She has served as Communications and Community Relations Manager for a leading international development agency providing clean drinking to rural African communities and balances her communication knowledge and skills with extensive field experience across several Southern and East African communities. Kristina currently provides communications consultancy support for several non profit organisations and is a contributor to CSI Handbook, Kaelo Stories of Hope and Environment Magazine.
