World Future Society South Africa Conference

South Africa's leading thinkers and academics will look at future trends likely to dominate Africa's economic powerhouse for the next 20 years.

The conference, titled “Imagineering South Africa's Future to 2030”, will look at the energy, the environment, education and economics sectors of our society and will map a vision of South Africa in the year 2030.
Over 100 high level delegates will participate in scenario-building exercises, share research insights and consider trends that will influence the driving forces of the country over the coming 20 years.

Already organisations like Woolworths, Rio Tinto, Dimension Data, BAT, the Department of Defence, COSATU, Plascon, Santam, Old Mutual, Pioneer Foods, Engen and Exxaro have secured their participation in the conference.
The ongoing race for marketshare, profits and resources in South Africa by the globalised world will continue to adversely impact our future. Solutions will come by the collective yielding to the thrust of thought leaders in business, labour, government and civil society pulling together in the same direction toward a preferable, sustainable future.
At the conference, some of the top local and international futurists and scenario planners will dissect varied topics ranging from South African Economic Scenarios to 2030, deglobalisation, a green future and explore What are the top five systematic challenges facing South Africa? There is also a special segment on security.

The two-day inaugural conference is being hosted by the WFS, South African chapter of the World Future Society and takes place at the Pavilion at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The conference will open with a recorded address by Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu to set the tone for the two days.
