Freight levels increase 6.5% in April

The volume of goods transported by land (payload) increased by 6.5% in April compared with the same period last year according to figures released by Statistics SA.

The corresponding income increased by 8.2% over the same period.

Income from freight transport increased by 7.3% in the three months ended April compared with the three months ended April last year.

The number of passenger journeys increased by 7% in April compared with the previous April but the hug jump in income, which was up by 24.1% over the same period has not been identified.
