Top 20 steakhouses announced

In The Wolftrap Steakhouse Championships, South Africa's favourite steakhouses are chosen by public vote and then the best are identified by expert judging. This year, 140 steakhouses were nominated and voted for by the public during the open voting round in March and April - and the Top 20 Steakhouses for 2014 have recently been announced.

The Top 20 Steakhouses for 2014 are:

• Cattle Baron (Table View), Western Cape;
• Cattle Baron (Tokai), Western Cape;
• Fahrenheit (Edenvale), East Rand, Gauteng;
• Fahrenheit Seafood and Grill (Benoni), East Rand, Gauteng;
• Founder's Grill (Florida North), Roodepoort, Johannesburg, Gauteng;
• Ginelli's (Middelburg), Mpumalanga ;
• HQ (Cape Town), Western Cape;
• Hussar Grill (Camps Bay), Western Cape;
• MooMoo (Pretoria), Gauteng;
• The Bull Run (Sandton), Johannesburg, Gauteng;
• The Godfather (Centurion), Pretoria, Gauteng;
• The Grill Jichana (Durban), KwaZulu Natal;
• The Grill Shop (Krugersdorp), West Rand, Gauteng;
• The Local Grill (Parktown North), Johannesburg, Gauteng;
• Theo's (Mouille Point), Western Cape;
• Turn 'n Tender (Bassonia), Johannesburg South, Gauteng;
• Turn 'n Tender (Bedfordview), East Rand, Gauteng; and
• Turn 'n Tender (Bryanston), Johannesburg, Gauteng.

The Top 20 are now in the second public voting round to identify the favourite five steakhouses which go forward into the stringent judging round in early June, during which these establishments will be visited by a select group of South Africa's food experts and chefs.

But right now, it's still voting time - and the chance for the public to ensure that their favourites amongst these 20 great steakhouses emerge amidst the final five.
