The company said it would continue to work together with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and stability at its affected operations.

"The situation on the ground remains calm with sporadic disregard for the picketing rules by striking employees. The company has noted with disappointment‚ and condemns the increase in‚ incidents of violence and intimidation taking place around Rustenburg and surrounding communities‚" Amplats said.

It said its employee attendance rate remained low‚ at about 10%.

Amplats confirmed that as a result of the industrial action‚ total lost platinum production would amount to approximately 4‚000 ounces and R100m of lost revenue per day at current market prices.
