Real wholesale trade sales up 6.8% in November

Wholesale trade sales at constant (2012) prices increased by 6.8% year-on-year (y/y) in November compared to a 5.9% y/y increase in October‚ Statistics SA data showed on Thursday, 16 January 2014.

Measured in real terms‚ seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales increased by 1.7% in November compared with October‚ following month-on-month changes of 1.0% in October and -0.2% in September.

Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales increased by 1.8% in the three months ended November compared with the previous three months.

Measured in nominal terms (current prices)‚ wholesale trade sales increased by 12.7% in November 2013 compared with November 2012. The major contributors to this increase were dealers in machinery‚ equipment and supplies (22.8% and contributing 2.9 percentage points); solid‚ liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (12.0% and contributing 2.6 percentage points); and "other" goods (11.1% and contributing 1.4 percentage points).

Wholesale trade sales increased by 13.4% in the three months ended November 2013 compared with the three months ended November 2012.

The major contributors to this increase were dealers in solid‚ liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (11.9% and contributing 2.7 percentage points); machinery‚ equipment and supplies (18.8% and contributing 2.5 percentage points); "other" goods (12.8% and contributing 1.4 percentage points); and food‚ beverages and tobacco (9.3% and contributing 1.4 percentage points).
