October goods transported by land rises 4.1%

The volume of goods transported by land increased by 4.1% in October compared with the same period last year. However, income for the transport companies increased by 9.2% over the same period.

According to Stats SA's figures, the main contributors to this increase were other freight (33.8% and contributing 3.1 percentage points) and primary mining and quarrying products (8.4% and contributing 2.8 percentage points).

Stats SA also noted that the number of passenger journeys increased by 4.6% in October compared with the same month last year and corresponding income increased by 9% over the same period.
