The road leading to the Nkandla village where President Jacob Zuma has his residence cost R290m to build‚ Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said in a written reply to a parliamentary question on Tuesday, 3 December.

She said the 32.4km road linking Nkandla to Kranskop was a provincial road. The construction and maintenance of the road was the responsibility of the KwaZulu-Natal department of transport.
"The national department did not contribute any funds to the construction of the road‚" Peters insisted in reply to the question from Inkatha Freedom Front MP Petros Sithole.
Expenditure at the residential compound itself has cost a further R208m.
